LMI (Lifting Machinery Inspector) Requiremnts.

LMI's have to be registred with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA).

Briefly appliacnts have to prove that they are suitably qualified and have 5 years of responsible experience in the industry.

                                                                            

Registration of Lifting Machinery Inspectors - Latest Update.

The Government Gazette of 7 March 2008 No 30829 has the following notice

NOTICE OF EXEMTION IN TERMS OF SECTION 40 (1) OF THE OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY ACT, 1993.

Driven Machinery Regulations 18(5)

Under section 40 (3) (b) of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993 (Act No 85 of 1993), I Jacob Pannye Malatse appointed as chief inspector in terms of section 27 (1) of the said Act, and by virtue of the power delegated to me by the Minister of Labour in terms of section 42 (1) of the Act, herby grant exemption in terms of section 40 (1) to the applicants who have submitted their application for registration as lifting machine inspectors to the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) before 30 September 2006 as per Government Gazette No 28755 until 27 June 2008.

This registration does not apply to persons who examine lifting tackle in terms of regulation 18 (10) (e) of the Driven Machinery Regulations.
