LME (Lifting Machinery Entity) requirements.
All entities engaged in the lifting equipment industry have to register with the Department of Labour (DoL).
Q. What forms etc are required and what is the contact detail and postal address of DOL regarding any registration of persons and Companies as an LME
A. The contact details for companies wanting to register with the DoL are listed below; (Ask them for their latest forms, as they seem to change from time to time. Keep copies of your submitted forms and use registered mail so you can prove your application and date of application).

(Lifting Machinery Entity (LME) Registration Requirements)
BASED ON DEPARTMENT OF LABOUR REQUIREMENTS
1. COMPETENCIES AND PROFICIENCY OF PERSONEL
The requirements include:
Competency and relevant experience of Technical Staff in specific disciplines.
Having a copy of the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act and its regulations available.
Providing proof of training of Technical Staff on the Act and its regulations.
That an updated copy of the Associates Codes and Standards be available.
Providing proof of training of Technical Staff on the relevant Codes, Standards & Specifications.
2. EXEMPTED
Technical Staff registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as Lifting Machinery Inspectors (LMI's).
The Lifting Machinery Entity (LME) shall have at least one LMI on its staff. The balance of the technical staff shall have a relative trade and five years experience.
3. TEST AND INSPECTION EQUIPMENT
A complete set of minimum relevant equipment required for a specific inspection.
A list of the equipment used for said inspection.
Calibration Certificates for the equipment used.
4. MANAGEMENT SYSTEM OF THE ENTITY (LME).
Management systems, including records of jobs and projects carried out, are required for audit purposes.
Test records issued must be kept available for a minimum of 5 years.
A copy of a code of conduct for the technical staff must be displayed.
Records of staff education and experience in the lifting industry working environment must be kept. |
